Want to know more? A tutorial on how
to interpret charts is a good place to start. Hans
Rosenthal has a website that provides a ton of weather
resources including an explanation of buoy

Most
people in Hawaii are concerned with the weather on a daily basis.
Beach goers planning a barbecue or surf contest officials deciding
whether to hold a scheduled event need access to up to the minute
charts and narrative interpretations.
The National Weather Service offers a wealth of information online, a Kauai
satellite picture, a more in depth discussion
and a 7
day forecast. You can also get an hourly
wind summary, so important to kiters and windsurfers. Current
weather at Lihue
Airport is updated on an hourly basis.
For surfers, the buoy
report map is useful, buoy
# 1 being the one that shows the NW swell first. Pat
Caldwell provides an excellent surf
and wind recreational forecast, with a lot of useful
links. Surfline
provides great Oahu surf reports, which apply on Kauai. The
University of Hawaii Department of Meteorology also posts
weather links and observations on their site.
Tide
information is available here.
